1 cup butter, cut into pieces

1 cup granulated white sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 large egg

4 cups blackberries

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon cornstarch

3/4 cup granulated white sugar

Instructions

1-Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC): Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.

2-In a bowl, combine 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup granulated white sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

3-Cut 1 cup of cold butter (in pieces) into the flour mixture until it forms pea-sized pieces.

4-Stir in 1 beaten large egg with a fork until just combined.

5-Press half of the dough mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust.

6-In another bowl, gently toss 4 cups blackberries with 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 3/4 cup granulated white sugar.

7-Scatter the sugared berry mixture evenly over the crust.

8-Sprinkle the remaining dough mixture evenly over the berry layer.

9-Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is lightly browned.

10-Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving.
