๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Create your own authentic Cajun seasoning blend that brings bold, spicy flavor to any dish in just minutes
๐Ÿง‚ Save money and control ingredients with this versatile homemade spice mix that’s perfect for everything from seafood to vegetables

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: About 3/4 cup seasoning 1x

Ingredients

Scale

3 tablespoons smoked paprika for smoky, sweet color and backbone flavor

2 tablespoons fine kosher salt for balancing and bringing out spices

2 tablespoons garlic powder for savory depth and fast garlic flavor

1 tablespoon ground black pepper for mild heat and aromatic bite

1 tablespoon ground white pepper for sharper, slightly fermented pepper note

1 tablespoon onion powder for savory sweetness and rounding the blend

1 tablespoon dried oregano for earthy, slightly bitter herbal notes

1/2 tablespoon cayenne pepper for heat

1 tablespoon thyme for woodsy, lemony herb undertone

Instructions

1-First Step: Gather your mise en place Measure each spice into small measuring spoons or a scale. Having everything measured first makes the process quick and reduces mistakes. You will need a small bowl or a clean spice jar and a spoon for mixing. The full ingredient list is provided above for reference.

2-Second Step: Combine the spices Put all measured spices into a bowl or directly into an empty spice jar: smoked paprika, fine kosher salt, garlic powder, ground black pepper, ground white pepper, onion powder, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, and thyme. Use a whisk or tight-fitting lid to shake until the color is even and the powders are fully blended.

3-Third Step: Taste and tweak Because this is a dry blend, tasting is limited. Sprinkle a small pinch into a spoonful of plain yogurt or olive oil and taste. If you want more heat, add an extra 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne. If you prefer less salt, reduce or omit the kosher salt and season your final dish instead.

4-Fourth Step: Transfer and label If you mixed in a bowl, transfer the mix to an airtight jar or spice container. Label the jar with the name and date. Proper labeling helps you use the freshest spices and rotate your pantry stock.

5-Fifth Step: Use it right away or store Use the Cajun Spice Mix immediately to coat proteins or vegetables, or store in a sealed container in a cool, dark pantry. The blend keeps freshness for up to one year, though flavor is most vibrant within six months.
