  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

– 1 batch homemade puff pastry or 1 lb (500 g) store-bought puff pastry (thawed and rolled to a 12 x 12-inch (30 x 30 cm) square)

– 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese (softened)

– 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar

– 1 tsp lemon juice

– 3/4 tsp vanilla extract

– 1 large egg mixed with 2 tsp water (for egg wash)

– 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar (for glaze)

– 3-5 tsp milk (for glaze)

– 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

1-Pre-heat oven: Pre-heat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

2-Beat the cream cheese: Beat the cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract together until smooth to create the filling this step is crucial for that creamy consistency.

3-Divide the puff pastry: Divide the puff pastry in two, roll one half into a 12 x 12-inch square, and cut it into four equal squares; repeat with the second half.

4-Place each square: Place each square on the prepared sheet, spoon about 2 Tbsp of filling into the center, and fold the four corners toward the center, leaving about 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) between them.

5-Brush the pastry folds: Brush the pastry folds with the egg wash mixture for a golden finish.

6-Bake: Bake for 17-19 minutes, or until golden brown, then allow the pastries to cool on the sheet.

7-While they cool: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to form a smooth glaze, then drizzle it over the cooled danishes for the final touch.

Notes

🧊 Let the assembled, unf baked danishes chill in the refrigerator overnight for even more flavor development.
❗ If the pastry folds puff too much, gently press them down with a spatula after baking.
🍎 Add a thin layer of apricot jam or fresh raspberries under the cream‑cheese filling for a fruity twist.
