Ingredients

– 1/2 cup sugar

– 1/2 cup butter

Instructions

1-Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease a 9ร—13 inch baking pan.

2-For the Cake: Cream sugar and butter until smooth and light. Beat in the egg and molasses until well combined.

3-Whisk dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.

4-Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

5-Add hot water: Slowly stir in the very hot water until the batter is smooth; it will be thin.

6-Bake Cake: Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 20-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7-For the Vanilla Cream Sauce: Combine sugar, butter, and heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter melts.

8-Cook and finish sauce: Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently. Boil for 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Let cool slightly before serving.
