Ingredients
6 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter or cooking oil
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, minced
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
1 teaspoon bouillon powder (or substitute with salt)
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon oregano
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1-Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Peel and slice the potatoes thinly for even cooking, which ensures they turn tender without overcooking the rest.
2-In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and sautΓ© the onion, garlic, and thyme until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, building a flavorful base.
3-Add the ground beef and cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it into small crumbles; then season with salt, bouillon powder, black pepper, paprika, and oregano, and drain any excess fat.
4-Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture, stir well, and cook for 1 minute; gradually add the beef broth and milk, stirring constantly until it thickens into a gravy.
5-Grease a 9″x13″ baking dish, layer half of the potatoes on the bottom, followed by half of the beef mixture, then repeat with the remaining potatoes and beef mixture.
6-Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender; uncover, sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly on top, and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
7-Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve for a complete, hearty meal.
