๐Ÿ Creamy, comforting pasta dish that combines lean ground turkey with a rich, cheesy sauce perfect for satisfying weeknight meals
๐Ÿฆƒ Quick and versatile recipe that delivers restaurant-quality flavor in just 40 minutes, making it ideal for busy families who want a hearty, homemade dinner

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

– 12 oz pasta of choice

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– 1 large yellow onion, diced

– 1 lb ground turkey

– 2 teaspoons salt, divided

– ยฝ teaspoon black pepper

– 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

– 5 cloves garlic, minced

– 2 tablespoons flour (use a gluten-free flour if needed)

– 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth

– 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce

– 1 cup half and half (or heavy cream)

– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

– Fresh parsley for garnish

– Red pepper flakes for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1-Step 1: Cook the PastaBring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook 12 oz pasta 1-2 minutes less than package directions for al dente bite. Reserve 1 cup pasta water, drain, and set aside. This trick thickens sauce later.

2-Step 2: Sautรฉ the OnionHeat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large pan or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add 1 large diced yellow onion. Cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Smells amazing already.

3-Step 3: Brown the Ground TurkeyAdd 1 lb ground turkey, break into pieces. Season with 1 teaspoon salt, ยฝ teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning. Stir in 5 cloves minced garlic. Cook 1 more minute. Like our easy chicken spaghetti recipe, this base shines simple.

4-Step 4: Thicken the BaseSprinkle 2 tablespoons flour over the mix, stir well. Pour in 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth and 15 oz tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer. Bubbles mean flavor building.

5-Step 5: Combine Pasta and CreamAdd cooked pasta and 1 cup half and half. Stir together. Thin with reserved pasta water or extra broth if thick. Taste, add remaining salt and pepper.

6-Step 6: Melt the CheesesStir in half the cheeses (ยฝ cup mozzarella + ยฝ cup cheddar). Top with rest. Lower heat, cover, cook until melted. Garnish with fresh parsley and optional red pepper flakes.

7-Optional Finishing Touch: For bubbly top, bake at 400ยฐF for 5-10 minutes. Golden cheese calls your name.

8-Serve and Enjoy: Plate hot. Pairs great with a side salad. Your family will love this ground turkey penne with tomato basil sauce vibe.

๐ŸงŠ Freeze leftovers for 2-3 months – thaw overnight and reheat gently, adding liquid as needed to loosen the sauce
