🌸 Indulge in a calming and aromatic lavender latte that brings the coffee shop experience to your kitchen
☕ Perfect balance of floral notes and rich coffee flavor that soothes your senses and elevates your morning routine

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 double shot of espresso or 48 ounces of strongly brewed coffee for depth and richness to balance the floral notes

½ cup milk of choice for creamy texture

1½ tablespoons lavender simple syrup for characteristic floral sweetness and aromatic qualities

Ice for an iced version

½ cup sugar for sweet base to balance coffee’s bitterness

½ cup water for syrup consistency

2 teaspoons dried culinary lavender for unique floral essence and soothing properties

½ teaspoon vanilla extract and/or vanilla bean caviar for depth and complexity to complement coffee and lavender notes

Instructions

1-Prepare the coffee: Brew a double shot of espresso or 4-8 ounces of strong coffee using your preferred method. Whether you have an espresso machine, French press, or drip coffee maker, the key is to ensure a concentrated, robust flavor that will stand up to the floral notes of the lavender.

2-Make lavender syrup: Combine ½ cup sugar, ½ cup water, and 2 teaspoons dried culinary lavender in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it simmer for exactly 1 minute, then remove from heat and allow it to cool completely. Once cooled, strain through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove all lavender buds. For a detailed recipe on lavender simple syrup techniques, this resource offers great tips.

3-Heat and froth milk: Warm your milk of choice to 150-160°F, being careful not to overheat beyond 160°F as this can scald the milk and create an off-flavor. You can heat the milk in a small saucepan on the stove, in the microwave, or using the steam wand of an espresso machine if you have one. Once heated, froth the milk using your preferred method a handheld milk frother, a traditional French pump, or by vigorously shaking warm milk in a sealed jar and then removing the lid.

4-Hot latte: Add the freshly brewed espresso and 1½ tablespoons of your homemade lavender syrup to a mug. Stir gently to combine. Pour the frothed milk over the top, holding back the foam with a spoon initially and then spooning it on top at the end for that professional café look. Stir gently once more if desired, and enjoy your hot lavender latte immediately.

5-Iced latte: Add milk and lavender syrup to a tall glass. Fill the glass with ice, leaving some room at the top. Pour the freshly brewed espresso over the ice and milk mixture. The hot espresso will create beautiful swirls as it melts some of the ice and combines with the milk. Stir lightly with a long spoon or straw, and serve your refreshing iced lavender latte right away.

Notes

🌾 Always use culinary-grade dried lavender buds – regular lavender may contain pesticides and isn’t safe for consumption
🥛 Experiment with different milk types – oat milk provides creaminess while almond milk lets the lavender flavor shine through
⏰ Make the lavender simple syrup ahead of time and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks for quick latte preparation
