๐Ÿฌ Create these timeless holiday treats that combine sweet coconut, crunchy pecans, and cherries in a rich chocolate coating
๐ŸŽฉ Bring a taste of American tradition to your dessert table with these elegant candies perfect for gifting and special occasions

  • Total Time: 2 hours 35 minutes
  • Yield: 5 dozen pieces

Ingredients

– 1 cup melted butter

– 1 pound powdered sugar

– 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

– 14 ounces sweetened shredded coconut

– 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)

– 10 ounces maraschino cherries, well drained, chopped, and blotted dry

– 3 cups finely chopped pecans (or other nuts as a substitute)

– 16 ounces candy coating such as melting wafers or almond bark

Instructions

1-Making Martha Washington Candies is a simple process that starts with prepping your ingredients for the best results.

2-Begin by chopping and thoroughly drying the maraschino cherries to remove any excess moisture, which helps the mixture hold its shape.

3-In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, sweetened shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, chopped cherries, and chopped pecans until everything is well mixed.

4-After mixing, refrigerate the dough for at least two hours to firm it up, making it easier to handle.

5-Once chilled, shape the mixture into one-inch balls and chill them again for about 20 minutes.

6-While that’s happening, melt the candy coating according to the package instructions, then dip each ball into the coating, tapping off the excess before placing them on parchment-lined baking sheets to set.

7-Let the coated candies harden at room temperature or in the fridge for a smooth finish.

8-Prep cherries and mix ingredients

9-Refrigerate mixture

10-Shape and dip balls
