Sugar Snails I first fell in love with sugar snails at a tiny bakery in Vienna. The spirals sat in the window, glossy with caramelized sugar, and I knew I had to recreate them at home.

  • Total Time: 40 min
  • Yield: 12 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 sheet refrigerated puff pastry or crescent dough, thawed
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

2-Prepare the sugar filling: Prepare the sugar filling: In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Stir in vanilla if using.
3-Assemble the snails: Assemble the snails: Unroll the dough on a clean surface. Brush evenly with melted butter, then sprinkle the sugar mixture over the top.
4-Roll and slice: Roll and slice: Starting from the long edge, roll the dough into a tight log. Slice into 1-inch rounds.
5-Bake: Bake: Place slices cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing slightly apart. Bake for 15-18 minutes, until puffed and golden.
6-Finish and serve: Finish and serve: Cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
