– 1 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
– 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
– 2 tbsp sweet Thai chili sauce (store-bought or homemade)
– 1/4 cup chopped green onions
– 1 medium Persian cucumber, thinly sliced or julienned
– 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
– 1/4 cup fresh Thai basil leaves (or Italian basil if unavailable)
– 1/4 cup chopped roasted peanuts
– 4 (8-inch) flour tortillas
– Chili paste for serving
– Toasted sesame oil for serving
– 1/4 cup honey
– 2 tbsp ketchup
– 2 tbsp chili sauce (e.g., Sriracha-style)
– Zest of 1 lime
– 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
– 1 tbsp rice vinegar
– 1 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
– 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
– 1 tsp grated fresh garlic
Instructions
1-Cook the ground beef with black pepper in a skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
2-Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and Chinese 5 spice. Stir constantly and cook for 1 minute more.
3-Mix in tamari or soy sauce and sweet Thai chili sauce. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce coats the beef nicely.
4-Remove from heat and stir in the chopped green onions.
5-Warm the flour tortillas in the microwave for 20-30 seconds until they’re easy to handle.
6-Divide the beef mixture among the tortillas and top each with cucumber slices, cilantro leaves, Thai basil leaves, green onions, and chopped peanuts.
7-Fold the sides inward and roll up tightly from the bottom.
8-Serve warm, with extra tamari or soy sauce, chili paste, and toasted sesame oil for dipping. You can also pair it with rice cooked in coconut milk for a fuller meal.
